Darrel Parker is an experienced Occupational Therapist with Texas Children's Health Centers in Houston. His book, A Parent And Teacher's Guide to the Special Needs Child, is an overview of difficulties children with special needs may face in daily living along with a introduction to practices and products that an occupational therapist can use to provide assistance to these children with special needs. His book begins with a nice introduction to the grief stages that parents may face when coping with their children's disabilities, in which he refutes the concept that these children can not be valuable to our society. Some of the occupational skills and concepts he covers include feeding, daily living activities, play, handwriting, and orthodics. This self published book also includes a summary of internet resources and search engines, definations of common disabilities, and developmental milestones.
